The Supreme Court Deals a Major Blow to Obama's Executive Actions on Immigration
June 23, 2016
President Barack Obama's immigration programs are effectively blocked from being implemented after the Supreme Court decision today.
The tie vote among the justices simply leaves in place a decision from the U.S. Court of Appeals upholding an injunction against the programs. Litigation is expected to continue in the lower courts, but it is highly unlikely to be resolved in time for the administration to implement the programs before the president leaves office in January. The decision does not address the program's constitutionality, which leaves open the door for a future president to try to implement something similar.
